01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Head downstairs expecting Indian curry, and you will find pho, pad Thai, and fresh spring rolls sharing the menu. Set below street level in Koenji Minami, Godawari presents a broad pan-Asian table in a relaxed, spacious setting. Along with standard tables, a raised tatami seating area accommodates everything from an easy solo meal to family dining with young children and lively group gatherings.
Fresh-Baked Naan, Diverse Curries, and Aromatic Biryani
The curry lineup anchors the menu, offering hearty variety from everyday chicken and butter chicken to lamb and spinach or Thai green curry. Tearing into hot, fragrant naan straight from the oven is deeply satisfying, especially with options extending from rich cheese naan and garlic naan to sweet anko red bean naan. For a more substantial feast, biryanis made with Indian basmati rice and aromatic spices come loaded with chicken, lamb, or fish.
Evening Drinks and Asian Small Plates
At night, Godawari easily doubles as an informal tavern where guests can graze on small plates from across Asia alongside cold drinks. Spiced seekh kebabs and tandoori chicken appear alongside steaming Nepalese momo dumplings, crisp fried or delicate fresh spring rolls, and fried octopus with avocado. The bar list complements the kitchen, pouring draft beer and highballs as well as Nepalese beer, Singha, Indian wines, and fruit-forward lassi cocktails.
Operating continuously from lunch through dinner with takeout available as well, the basement dining room is as handy for a spontaneous bite during a neighborhood stroll as it is for bringing bold, comforting Asian cooking back home.
